A community that connects
While life in large cities is often characterised by anonymity, KnowS' analysis shows how vibrant neighbourhood assistance is in Switzerland. The village of Bäch in the canton of Schwyz in particular proves that solidarity is more than just a buzzword. With 1,696 inhabitants, the municipality achieves a peak value of 0.94 assistance missions per 100 inhabitants – making it the most helpful municipality in Switzerland.
Digital platform for everyday assistance
The ranking is based on anonymised data from the KnowS platform. Since 2020, KnowS has been bringing together people who are looking for support in their everyday lives or who want to offer their skills.
Whether it's help with moving house, assembling furniture, gardening, tutoring or childcare, the jobs arranged show that help in Switzerland can be organised digitally and implemented locally.
Village spirit beats big city anonymity
It is not only Bäch that is impressive: municipalities such as Zufikon (AG), Turbenthal (ZH) and Schöftland (AG) also have above-average rates.
Among the cities, Baden, Kloten and Opfikon are at the top of the list. Although Zurich has recorded over 600 successful interventions, its figures are lower than many smaller towns in relation to its population.
Schwyz, a canton with a strong sense of community
At the cantonal level, Schwyz tops the ranking, driven by particularly active municipalities such as Bäch and Freienbach. This shows that the culture of helping others varies greatly from region to region in Switzerland, but benefits from digital mediation everywhere.
Who helps whom?
The variety of tasks ranges from private favours to professional support:
- Students help with moving house.
- Families organise childcare.
- Retired people take on gardening work.
- Skilled workers provide support at events or with repairs.
The evaluation shows that neighbourhood assistance is practised across generations – from young people to retirees, from private individuals to professionals.
